One of the longest standing competitive and sportsman drag racing events in Georgia, the Import Showdown has been running for 20 years. Early on it was purely a sportman event to give amateur drivers an opportunity to make drag strip passes. Over time it has grown into a highly competitive event that primarily focuses on class based racing. Another recent addition was bracket racing.
Although the classes and payouts are adjusted from year to year, they generall area:
- Muscle Cars vs. World – $2000/$4000
- Showdown – $1200/$2400
- Modified Street – $800/$1600
- 10.50 Index – $1000/$1800
- 11.50 Index – $800/$1600
- Street Tuner – $600/$1200
- All Motor – $600/$1200
Despite it’s name it’s open to imports and domestics for test and tune as well as to compete in one of three classes.
Despite the recent addition of allowing domestics it’s still one of the best places to see import racing. Elimination rounds are almost always competitive and exciting. It’s a great day at the track for relatively little money whether you are watching or racing.
If you are looking to maximize test and tune time a regular friday night series may be a better option. However, if you want to get a few passes in for fun while taking in a lot of the scene, this is a great event.
