Porsche Vision Of The Sports Car Of The Future
Porsche’s Vision Of The Sports Car Of The Future
Porsche unveiled it’s vision of the sports of the car future during the it’s 75th Anniversary Celebration events. The broadcast was streamed live from their headquarters in Germany. The celebration also included live, in person events here in Atlanta at Porsche’s North American headquarters.
The new EV hypercar is clearly designed to be the EV spiritual successor to the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder.
Porsche stated some expected facts and details:
- Be the fastest road-legal vehicle around the Nürburgring Nordschleife
- Have a power-to-weight ratio of roughly one hp per 2.2 lbs.
- Achieve downforce values that are well in excess of those delivered by the current 911 GT3 RS
- Offer significantly improved charging performance with its 900-volt system architecture and charge roughly twice as quickly as the current Porsche frontrunner, the Taycan Turbo S
- Has staggered tires, with 20-inch wheels at the front and 21-inch wheels at the rear.
- Measuring approximately 177 inches long and 78.7 inches wide.
- A wheelbase of 107.4 inches, it has the dimensions of the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder
The Porsche Mission X is a technology beacon for the sports car of the future. It picks up the torch of iconic sports cars of decades past: like the 959, the Carrera GT and the 918 Spyder before it, the Mission X provides critical impetus for the evolutionary development of future vehicle concepts.
Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG
Our Prediction
Our guess is this will be a new prototype EV car – possibly even a roadster in the spirit of the original 356 release 75 years ago in 1948. Porsche teased the 357 back in January with some renderings, noting it was based on the Cayman GT4 RS platform. At the time they referred to it as a design study, but we think it’s possible the design phases are complete and we’re likely to see a prototype.
We expect either a fully EV or a plug in hybrid, rather than a purely gas engine. The Porsche 357 design was a hard top, but we wouldn’t be surprised if a roadster version is presented.

A Vision Of The Sports Car Of The Future
In a major tease, Porsche also noted it would “offer a look forward to its vision of the sports car of the future“. There is a lot of speculation what this means, and if any other products will be announced. Some common guesses on the internet have been
- A prototype EV car
- The Porsche 911 ST model
- The release of the EV 911
Porsche 357
We created a very special birthday present in the form of the Porsche Vision 357, one which uses the 356 as a basis to underscore the significance of our design DNA
