ShiftAtlanta had a chance to sit down with Tim Crawley to talk about TAS Auto Repair. Tim Crawley is a long time friend and supporter of ShiftAtlanta, and even recently joined ShiftAtlanta’s board. It’s pretty likely you’ve met him, even if you didn’t realize it. Let’s learn a little bit more about what he does when he isn’t at a car meet.

How did you get started?

I’ve always been an Automotive Enthusiast with several years of providing great service on the sales side, now I’m using that experience to help clients on the service side.

What do you specialize in?

We were previously named The Alignment Specialists, so we know alignments well. Our head mechanic has over 20yrs of experience and can pretty much work on anything. That said our shop is smaller than our partner shop which handles; engine, transmission and bigger jobs.

We all know that when you work on cars, things go wrong. Surely, you’ve got a story to share…

Customer was adamant that their A/C compressor was out on the vehicle, didn’t want us to perform our own diagnosis. I finally got through to them that we are professionals and we perform our on diagnosis, welp ended up not needing a compressor and just needed a proper A/C Service.

What are your favorite projects?

I like seeing our clients get in their car and feel the difference of the repair or service before they leave the parking lot.

What’s something you wish people knew before bringing their car in?

Before getting an alignment done, make sure your tires are all the same size, unless staggered from the factory.

What advice do you have for someone who likes to work on their car themselves? Maybe a tool to recommend or a word of advice/warning?

Use quality parts always, don’t buy the cheapest option, because it will usually cost you more in the long run.

What are you hoping your shop/company is doing a year from now?

I want the shop to contribute to the local sport and academic teams. Hosting monthly car meets, giving back back through charities.
