Shop Spotlight: Adrian Stanescu Talks RWF Motorsports

We recently had a chance to visit with Adrian Stanescu and checkout RWF Motorsports. RWF, short for “Racing With Friends”, is a long time dream for the founders of the upstart shop in Buford. The ShiftAtlanta team came away very impressed with the work they do and the rather interested projects they have going.

When did you get started?

We started our shop in July of 2024. Steven and I have been working on cars since we were 15 years old, helping each other put engines in our first cars in each other’s driveways. Starting a shop like many car guys was always a dream of ours to have a place of our own that we could bring our car ideas to life with our friends. The Racing With Friends concept was dreamed up a few years ago and last summer we took the plunge to make it happen!

What is it you do better than everyone else?

I don’t like to think of ourselves as necessarily better than everyone else but we put our customers first and we want to make sure everyone is taken care of, that is of utmost priority. Our community, friends, customers, are what set us apart. It’s hard to explain myself but the people who have been here know that something just feels different, we’re driven by our passion for cars and motorsports and I think what else sets RWF apart is we’re working towards building a place where our customers can come and have a special automotive experience, whether it’s having it’s just having service done, building a racecar, or taking advantage of our track rental program to get out on track.

What are your favorite projects?

We have more projects than I care to admit but I personally really love Steven’s 335D MSport Coupe project, it is an e92 formerly a 335i, that is now home to a BMW M57 diesel engine from an X5 35D paired with an 8HP transmission, it’s on it’s way to being a tire roasting monster and I’m super excited to see it come to life and get on the road. Another project I’m very excited to make progress on this year is my Fiat 131 Abarth rally car that I will be putting a Honda K series in and bringing back to life after its hard life of stage rally racing in Europe.

Editors Opinion: 335d/BMW Diesels as a performance car is highly underrated. Also, what’s with all of the Fiat Abarth race cars lately? We are here for it!

What’s something you wish people knew before bringing their car in?

Most of our customers and audience are enthusiasts so I think they understand the importance of things such as regular maintenance a little more than your average car owner but I think it’s important when someone buys a Euro car such as a BMW or Mercedes, especially on the used to market, to understand and expect to set aside budget for maintenance and to try to avoid postponing services too long because 8 times out of 10 it will end up costing them more down the road.

What advice do you have for someone who likes to work on their car themselves? Maybe a tool to recommend or a word of advice/warning?

I think it’s great that people want to work on their car themselves and we would never discourage that, but we are here to help if someone doesn’t have the time or know-how to tackle a specific issue, install, service, etc.

For the typical DYIer, if you are working on a car that has seen a lot of rust (especially something that came from up north), an induction heater will save you a lot of heartache taking out rusted exhaust bolts and such.

What are you hoping your shop is doing a year from now?

Motorsports is going to be a big focus for us in 2025 and we’d like to grow our rental and motorsports program to make racing and track days more accessible to enthusiasts who may not even have any idea that getting out on track is something they could even do.
