Original Article: WRC Could Return To US In Chattanooga

The World Rally Cross (WRC), the internationally renowned racing series, run by the FIA, is considering a return to the US and could be in Chattanooga. WRC, where star cars like the WRX STi and Lancer Evolution were born, would be returning to US soil for the first time in 36 years.

Organizers of this years Rally Chattanooga event told multiple outlets, including the Times Free Press, that part of this years event was being used as demonstration as they attempt to lure WRC back to the US. The multi-day event not only included the traditional Rally stages, but also included a fan fest at the Chattanooga Choo Choo where Rally fans could see the cars up close and meet racers.

Chattanooga Tourism Co said this was an opportunity to draw the event which could lure visitors from all of the US to the region and have an impact on the region in the 10s of millions of dollars. It’s reported that stages and events would likely occur across Hamilton, Bradley and Polk counties. Chattanooga is based on Hamilton County.

Currently the only North American event on the WRC 2023 schedule is in Mexico. WRC has previously held events in the US, the last being in Washington state. Canada is also vying for a return of the WRC. Canada last hosted a WRC event in 1979 and is anticipated a potential return. It’s possible the WRC may add both Canada and the US, or only one of the two.
